INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM)

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT (IPM)

IPM is a process you can use to solve pest problems while minimizing risk to people and the environment.

IPM focuses on long term prevention of pests.

Cultural Control

1. Remove harborage (conditions that provide shelter or protection for rodents)

2. Remove food sources (wildlife, feeders, compost piles, pet food & fruit or vegetables on the ground)

Mechanical Control

1. Rodent Exclusion (the method used to eliminate possible entry points to your house)

2. Snap traps or live traps

Chemical Control

1. The use of chemicals in the safest possible manner (Rodenticide)

Rather than simply eliminating the pest you see right now, using IPM means you’ll look at the environmental factors that affect the pest and its ability to thrive. Using IPM around your home and property will create conditions unfavorable for rodents and will reduce the amount of chemicals (rodenticides) needed to manage the problem.
